Innovation of Thomas A. Edison

For Edison, innovation was never theoretical. It was always hands-on. The first step toward creative, profitable innovation (as Edison saw it) was to grasp the realities of the environment in which you propose to innovate. After seeing and feeeling these firsthand, the next step was to determine what new shape these realities might be made to take in order to make them more useful, efficient, and profitable. For Edison there was no alternative: Innovation always required dirty hands.
